I studied in St. Joseph’s high school in Sarel until 5th grade. I continued my education at St. Joseph's Convent Higher Secondary School, Nagercoil where I completed my studies until

12th grade.

My initial search for success in life

I completed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences (SRIPMS) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India in 1996 with first class honors. This institution prepared me to be dedicated to patient care, reflecting my commitment to the nursing profession. I considered Prof. Seethalekshmi, Former Principal as my role model in the nursing profession. This admiration influenced my dedication to nursing and my approach to education and patient care. My passion for nursing research began during my BSN program when I undertook a research project. This early experience laid the foundation for my continued involvement in research throughout my career.

Saveetha College

I completed MSN in Child Health Nursing at Saveetha College of Nursing, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India in 2000. This advanced degree further solidified my expertise in child health, enhancing my ability to contribute to nursing education and patient care. The MSN program also intensified my research experience, laying a strong foundation for my future endeavors in nursing research and education. However, I felt a lack of confidence in research despite the strong foundation was laid during my MSN program.

Despite my initial lack of confidence in research, I decided to explore the field further by pursuing a PhD. I enrolled for my PhD at Apollo Hospital under The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Tamil Nadu, India. Dr. Prithika Chary supervised my PhD, with co-supervision from Dr. Rosalind Convey. Their guidance likely played a crucial role in my research development. Further, this opportunity allowed me to delve deeper into my research interests and enhanced my expertise in nursing research. Besides, I began learning deeply about research during my PhD through self-study and exploration. I gained significant research capacity after completing my PhD through exploration. This experience empowered me to contribute more effectively to nursing research and education.

My search for leadership

My search for leadership within the nursing profession highlights a diverse range of roles that emphasize various aspects of leadership. I started my professional journey being a Lecturer and Clinical Instructor. These roles involved direct teaching and mentoring of nursing students. On completion of MSN, I was promoted as an Assistant Professor. I mentored the students, engaged them in research, and contributed to curriculum development. On completion of PhD, I performed the role of Associate professor/Head of Department. This position required strategic leadership, including managing faculty, overseeing departmental operations, and implementing educational standards. I could effectively collaborate and promote a positive academic environment. Further, I took the roles of Dean and Principal. In these leadership positions, I could shape the vision and direction of nursing programs. I could manage accreditation, faculty recruitment, and maintaining academic standards. I could navigate complex organizational dynamics and advocate for resources. Currently, I am an Associate Professor/Director: Nursing Laboratory and Simulation Unit. This role involves overseeing nursing education practices and developing simulation-based learning environments. I am able to foster innovation in teaching and ensuring that students gain essential clinical skills.

Why I Became a Simulationist?

My journey toward becoming a simulationist began with a deep desire to transform the way healthcare professionals learn. As an educator, I witnessed how traditional teaching methods sometimes fell short in preparing students for the complex realities of clinical practice. I wanted my learners not just to know—but to do, to feel, and to think like real professionals before they ever met a patient. Simulation offered that opportunity. It bridges the gap between theory and practice, creating a safe yet powerful environment where mistakes become lessons, teamwork is strengthened, and confidence is built. Every scenario brings students closer to real-world competence while nurturing their critical thinking, communication, and empathy. Becoming a simulationist allowed me to blend education, innovation, and patient safety. It gave me the joy of watching learners grow—not just in skills, but in professional identity. Through simulation, I found my purpose: empowering healthcare professionals to deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.

Why I Became a Healthcare Entrepreneur?

My journey as a healthcare entrepreneur began with a passion to bridge the gap between healthcare education, research, and real-world practice. As a nurse educator and simulationist, I have always believed that innovation is the key to transforming healthcare delivery and education. Over the years, I realized that many of the challenges we face in clinical training, patient care, and health education could be solved through creative, evidence-based, and technology-driven solutions. Becoming a healthcare entrepreneur allowed me to turn ideas into impactful innovations. It gave me the freedom to design, develop, and implement solutions that enhance learning, improve patient safety, and empower healthcare professionals. Whether it’s through simulation-based learning, research-driven products, or digital health initiatives, entrepreneurship has been a pathway to make a broader difference. For me, healthcare entrepreneurship is not just about business—it’s about purpose. It’s about using creativity, knowledge, and technology to make healthcare safer, smarter, and more human-centered. Every innovation I pursue is guided by a single vision: to inspire transformation and contribute to a healthier, more competent future generation of healthcare professionals.
